Branch Pastor — Eldoret
Pastor
Pastor Ruth Chebet
“God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called. Every person who steps through these doors carries a God-given assignment, and our job is to help them discover and fulfil it.”
Pastor Ruth Chebet was born on October 5, 1982, in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. She grew up in a household that was culturally Christian but not deeply evangelical. Her father was a government civil servant and her mother a primary school teacher. Church was attended on major holidays, but personal faith was not a regular topic of conversation in the home.
Ruth's life was marked by academic excellence from an early age. She attended Pioneer Girls' School in Eldoret and later Moi Girls High School, Eldoret, where she was a standout student in sciences. In 2000, she enrolled at Moi University to study Nursing, a career choice driven by her genuine desire to serve and care for others.
It was during her second year of university that Ruth attended a Varsity Christian Fellowship outreach event and encountered the gospel in a fresh, personal way. The transformation was profound and complete — she described it as 'my life being switched on.' She became an active member of the campus Christian union and began leading a small group for fellow nursing students.
After graduating in 2005, Ruth worked as a registered nurse at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret while serving as a volunteer in her local church's youth and women's ministries. Her organisational skills, combined with her pastoral heart, quickly distinguished her as a leader of unusual capacity.
In 2010, Ruth felt a strong call to full-time ministry. She enrolled in the Kenya School of Ministry (KSOM) in Nairobi, completing a two-year graduate-level diploma in Theology and Ministry Leadership. She was among the top students in her cohort and received the Director's Award for excellence upon graduation.
After completing her theological training, she returned to Eldoret and connected with the emerging MCC Eldoret church plant, which had been launched by a small team from MCC Kisii in 2019. She immediately began serving as a core team member, and within months, Bishop Oboka recognized her exceptional gifts and appointed her as the pioneering pastor of MCC Eldoret Branch.
Under Pastor Ruth's leadership, MCC Eldoret has grown from an initial group of 30 to a congregation of over 250 active members in just a few years. Her approach to ministry blends pastoral compassion with sharp organisational acumen, creating an environment where people feel both deeply loved and systematically equipped.
She introduced the 'Champions in the Marketplace' programme at MCC Eldoret — a monthly forum where faith meets professional life, bringing together Christian business people, professionals, and entrepreneurs for fellowship, mutual support, and the application of biblical principles to their vocational lives.
Pastor Ruth is widely respected as a trailblazer — both as one of the few female branch pastors in the MCC network and as a young leader who has demonstrated exceptional church planting skills in an urban context. She serves as a mentor to several young women in ministry across Kenya and is a regular conference speaker on topics of faith, leadership, and purpose.
Pastor Ruth is married to Eng. Geoffrey Chebet, a structural engineer. They have two children, Nathan (10) and Naomi (7). The family is actively involved in MCC Eldoret.
