Lead Pastor — Kisii Main Branch
Pastor
Pastor John Omondi
“A church that worships together, serves together, and grows together is a church that changes its city. That is our daily pursuit at MCC Kisii.”
Pastor John Omondi was born on July 22, 1978, in Kisii Town. The second of three siblings, he was raised in a devout Christian household where Sunday church attendance was not optional but the anchor of the week. His parents, who were founding members of their local parish, modelled a faith that was both personal and communal.
John gave his life to Christ at the age of fourteen during a school fellowship meeting. His conversion was immediate and transformative — he threw himself into the church's youth group, eventually rising to lead it by the time he was seventeen. His peers recognized in him a natural gift for communication and a pastoral heart that made him accessible and trustworthy.
He pursued a Bachelor of Commerce at Moi University, graduating in 2001. Though his degree equipped him for a career in business, John's heart remained firmly anchored in ministry. He worked as a bank officer for four years while continuing to serve in church, but the call to full-time pastoral work grew increasingly impossible to ignore.
In 2005, when Bishop Daniel Oboka founded MCC, John Omondi was among the first 47 members of that founding congregation. His gifts were quickly apparent, and within months he was serving as the head of the worship team and leading a home cell group. He enrolled in a part-time theological programme at the Africa Inland Church Bible College in 2006.
By 2008, John had formally transitioned from secular employment into full-time ministry at MCC Kisii. He served as an associate pastor under Bishop Oboka's mentorship for four years, gaining experience in pastoral counseling, administration, preaching, and leading mission teams.
In 2012, Bishop Oboka appointed John Omondi as the Lead Pastor of MCC Kisii Main Branch — the flagship congregation of the network. Under his leadership, the congregation grew from 400 to over 1,200 active members, and the church relocated to a larger facility that could accommodate the growing family.
Pastor John's leadership style is characterized by warmth, accessibility, and a relentless commitment to excellence in everything the church does. He has introduced numerous programmes at the Kisii Main Branch, including a structured pastoral care system, a leadership academy for emerging ministers, and a robust community service initiative called 'MCC Cares'.
He serves not only as the lead pastor but as a key member of the MCC Apostolic Council, contributing to strategic decisions for the entire MCC network. He also serves on the Kisii County Clergy Forum and has been instrumental in fostering inter-denominational cooperation for community development projects.
Pastor John is a sought-after speaker at conferences, seminars, and leadership retreats across the region. His preaching is marked by clear biblical teaching, practical application, and a gift for making complex truths accessible to ordinary people.
Pastor John is married to Pastor (Mrs.) Winnie Omondi, who leads the women's ministry at MCC Kisii Main. They have three children: Caleb (17), Esther (14), and Joy (9). The family lives in Kisii Town.
