Branch Pastor — Marera
Pastor
Pastor James Mosigisi
“God does not call us to build empires; He calls us to build people. Every teaching, every sermon, every discipleship session is an investment in a person whose impact on the world will outlast us all.”
Pastor James Mosigisi was born on September 12, 1983, in Marera, Kisii County. The son of a farmer and a small-scale trader, James grew up with a deep appreciation for hard work and integrity. His parents were committed Christians, and the family's life revolved around the rhythms of their local church.
James was a thoughtful, bookish young man who found in the Scriptures a depth and richness that captivated him from his teenage years. He was known in his school's Christian Union for asking the kind of searching theological questions that kept teachers and senior students on their toes.
He pursued a Bachelor of Education at Egerton University, majoring in Christian Religious Education and Literature. His teaching background would later prove invaluable in his ministry, giving him a structured approach to communicating truth and developing others.
After university, James taught at a secondary school in Kisii for three years while actively serving in MCC Kisii, which he had joined in 2007. His teaching gifts were obvious, and he became the coordinator of MCC Kisii's home fellowship system, training cell group leaders and developing discipleship materials.
In 2013, sensing a deeper call to pastoral ministry, James enrolled in the Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology (now Africa International University), completing a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies in 2016. His thesis examined the role of small communities in the formation of missional disciples — a topic that would directly inform his ministry model.
He completed his studies and was appointed as a pastoral intern at MCC Kisii for one year before being sent to pioneer MCC Marera Branch in 2016. His homecoming to the Marera community — where he was known and trusted — gave the new church plant a significant relational advantage from day one.
Pastor James has built MCC Marera into a congregation known for the depth of its biblical teaching and the strength of its discipleship culture. He has developed a structured three-year discipleship curriculum for new believers, and the church runs a weekly 'School of the Word' that draws participants from churches across the area.
His emphasis on deep biblical formation has attracted many young people seeking a faith that can withstand intellectual scrutiny and the pressures of modern life. MCC Marera has become particularly known as a church where young adults find both intellectual stimulation and genuine community.
Beyond Marera, Pastor James contributes significantly to the MCC network's theological and educational resources. He heads the MCC Curriculum and Training Committee and has authored several devotional and study booklets used across all MCC branches. He is currently developing a comprehensive leaders' training programme for the MCC network.
Pastor James is married to Lydia Mosigisi, a primary school headteacher and a key pillar of MCC Marera's children's ministry. They have three children and are known in the community as a family that models the faith they preach.
