Branch Pastor — Marani

Pastor
Pastor Nyachoti
“Ministry is not a career; it is a covenant. When I stand before this congregation, I am not performing a job — I am honouring a sacred trust that God and this community have placed in my hands.”
Pastor David Nyamweya was born on April 18, 1975, in Marani, Kisii County. Growing up in a rural community, David was surrounded by the rhythms of agricultural life and a close-knit community where neighbors genuinely looked out for one another. These early experiences shaped his deep value for community and service.
David came to faith as a teenager through the witness of a visiting pastor at a village crusade. The simple, powerful message of the gospel struck him deeply, and he surrendered his life to Christ at the age of sixteen. He immediately began attending a local Pentecostal church in Marani and was noted for his diligence and sensitivity to spiritual things.
After completing secondary school, David worked in Kisii Town for several years while actively serving in his church's men's ministry and evangelism team. He participated in numerous outreach trips to rural areas, developing a passion for grassroots evangelism and community transformation.
David's entry into formal ministry came when he met Bishop Oboka in 2004, a year before MCC was officially founded. He was immediately captured by the bishop's vision for a church that would plant churches across Kenya. He joined MCC Kisii as one of the founding members in 2005 and served in various capacities including head of evangelism, home cell coordinator, and lay preacher.
Recognising David's intimate knowledge of Marani community and his gifts for pastoral work, Bishop Oboka commissioned him to lead the MCC Marani church plant in 2011. David enrolled in a theological correspondence programme through Harvest Bible College while simultaneously pioneering the new congregation.
The early years in Marani were challenging — a small rented space, limited resources, and the need to build trust within a community that had its own established church network. But Pastor David's authentic relationships, patient presence, and genuine love for people slowly built a community of believers that grew steadily year over year.
Today, MCC Marani Branch has grown to over 320 members and is known throughout the region for its warm, family-like atmosphere and its deep engagement with the surrounding community. Pastor David has championed several community initiatives, including a literacy programme for adults in partnership with the local government.
His approach to leadership is deeply relational — he believes that the pastor's home should be an extension of the church, and the Nyamweya family is known for their open-door hospitality. Many believers in Marani trace their faith journey to a conversation or a meal in Pastor David's home.
He serves on the MCC Apostolic Council and contributes meaningfully to the network's discipleship strategy. He is also a member of the Kisii County Pastors' Fellowship and regularly collaborates with other church leaders for community outreach and prayer initiatives.
Pastor David is married to Mama Pauline Nyamweya, who co-leads the women's fellowship in Marani. They have four children — three sons and a daughter — all of whom are active members of MCC Marani.
